Director: Pierre Saint-Amand
The Center of Excellence at Yale University is housed within the Department of French, but seeks to establish contact and collaboration with scholars across the Humanities and Social Sciences working on France, as well as with colleagues in the Sciences whose work brings them into contact with French researchers.
Yale's Center of Excellence provides a forum for cutting-edge work on France by scholars across the university, as well as by students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Yale's Department of French also houses Yale French Studies, one of the leading journals devoted to French literature and culture.
The Center of Excellence at Yale University organizes conferences and colloquia focused on France. Many of these are held within the Department of French, but we accept requests to sponsor programs in other departments and areas of the university as well. We also sponsor film series relating to France. Examples of recent events include: The Proust Marathon; The Migrant Crisis in Europe: A Two-Part Film Series; Versions of Reality: Four Talks by Acclaimed French Writers; and Antisemitism in France: Past, Present, Future.
Every academic year, we invite ambitious project proposals relating to France from scholars across the university. We are especially interested in proposals that advance the French government’s priorities for 2018, including “Make Our Planet Great Again- French Initiative for the Environment,” championed by President Macron, and projects that aim at diversifying student mobility between France and the United States. Please contact the director or administrator for more information on how to submit a proposal.
