University Of Michigan Debate Team Wins Lafayette Debates In Washington D.c.

The Higher Education Department of the Embassy of France and the George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs hosted the 2015 Lafayette Debates, an intercollegiate debate tournament, on the topic of climate change.

The topic of debate was as follows: “That all states have an obligation to anticipate, prevent and minimize the causes of climate change, and mitigate its adverse effects.”

Fifty universtites from around the world participated in the debate series when it launched online in February. Twenty-eight of those teams qualified to make the trip to Washington D.C. for the tournament on the campus of George Washington Univeristy from April 18-19, 2015.

The University of Michigan Debate Team won the on-campus tournament this year. The winning team, as well as the semi-finalists, won a trip to France where they will meet with policy-makers and high-level stakeholders.
