France on Campus: Montclair State University

Montclair State University hosted its annual French Day on Friday, February 28th. French Day aims to showcase various facets of francophone culture while engaging students in an immersive French language experience.

300 middle and high school students from 18 different schools across New Jersey attended a series of workshops dedicated to exploring the rich culture of various regions of the francophone world. This year’s theme, le Carnaval, offered students an international sampling of the food, festivities, and culture of worldwide Carnaval celebrations in Quebec, New Orleans, Nice, Fort-de-France, Port-au-Prince, and Basel. Workshops were followed by a film competition showcasing the students’ cinematic adaptations of French poems.

Montclair State University’s French Day event was facilitated by the cultural promotion initiatives of Le Cercle Français, one of the university’s student organizations devoted to the appreciation and sharing of French culture. For their efforts to engage new audiences in cultural experiences, members of Le Cercle Français were presented with the France on Campus Award, granted by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
