Job Fairs

French Language Job Fairs

In 2019, the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the U.S. will partner with American universities to hold French Language Job Fairs. These jobs fairs will give students the opportunity to discover a variety of career paths and local positions across fields for French-speaking Americans. The Fairs will also give teachers the opportunity to meet our partners to better understand the needs of the economy and the labor market, and will give local business and organizations the chance to showcase their activities and local branches, and meet prospective candidates.

Language skills are now essential in many professional sectors and command of French is a key advantage, as highlighted in the 2017 report Not Lost in Translation, The Growing Importance of Foreign Language Skills in the U.S. Job Market published by the think thank New American Economy. For example, nearly 22,300 job offers published online in 2015 in the U.S. were looking for candidates proficient in French compared to 9,500 in 2010. French is the third most requested language on the American labor market, particularly in sectors such as insurance, healthcare, finance, and humanitarian aid. These job fairs are excellent opportunities to spotlight French as a professional asset by connecting students, teachers and business representatives.
