Lafayette Debates expands nationally

This past weekend at Pacific Lutheran University over 170 students and faculty members from 20 different U.S. colleges and universities commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Paris 1968 Revolt & General Strike by engaging the 2018 Lafayette Debates topic area, "Revolution & Resistance," via extemporaneous debates at the U.S. Universities Debate Western Championship.

Thank you to Pacific Lutheran University and Director of Forensics Dr. Justin Eckstien for organizing this important discussion! We are excited to see so many U.S. debating societies using debate as a tool for civic engagement and global citizenship.

The Lafayette Debates will culminate in April 2018 at the Lafayette Debates U.S. National Championships at the Embassy of France in Washington DC. This year over 400 U.S. students from over 45 colleges and universities will commemorate the 50th anniversary of May ' 68 through speech and debate as part of the Lafayette Debates. The top teams and individual debaters at the U.S. National Championship will win study tours to Paris on which they will continue their exploration of the Lafayette Debates topic.
